Britax is a British company who have been specialising in car safety equipment & accessories since 1938, swapping specifically to childcare safety in the 1970's. Known for being at the forefront of child safety it comes as no surprise that they have come up with their most compact ISOfix yet. The Britax Max Fix II Car Seat is a rearward facing group 0+ & 1 car seat that is more compact and lighter than most in this category. The fact that it doesn't take up so much space makes it easy to transfer between cars without compromising on the ISOfix safety.

Seat

As the Britax Max Fix II is a group 0+ & 1 car seat, it is rearward facing. The seat comes with an easy to remove padded inlay for the first few months since birth. There is a simple wheel on the side of the base that allows you to adjust the seat into 7 different recline positions. At the back of the seat there is a similar clip that adjusts the headrest. This can be moved into 6 different heights to accommodate those first growth spurts.

The seat has a 5 point safety harness with adjustable, padded straps and an easy release button.  This gives your child plenty of room to grow and protects them from any tight belt chafing.

There are two harness retainers stitched into either side of the seat for the straps when they are not in use. This makes it easy and quick to get your child in and out without losing the ends and getting tangled.

The seat also features soft padded wings in breathable fabric for comfort during all seasons and maximum side impact protection.

We love the foot prop, as it is ideal for resting little feet and doubles up as a second handle when installing and moving the car seat.

Suitability

The Britax Max Fix II Car Seat is suitable for children from 0- 18kg, which is from birth to approximately 4 years. The whole seat is a lightweight 12.2kg making it one of the lightest car seats with all the safety features.

Group 0+

As seen above, the Britax Max Fix II has an inlay that provides extra support, comfort and safety for newborns.

We love this newborn inlay, because it is easily adjustable to accommodate babies of all shapes and sizes. It has a large padded insert slotted into the pack that can be removed as your little one gets bigger, but provides much needed support in the early days. If your little one is too big for the padded inlay but is still not quite ready for the full seat, this feature is perfect.

Group 1

As your child goes through their first big growth spurt, the Britax Max Fix II can adjust with them. The group one seat is essentially the same seat without the newborn inlay and has adjustable headrest options.

The inlay can easily be removed without having to undo and re-thread the arm straps. There are two convenient poppers on either side of the head cushion that prevent it from slipping around when in use and allow a simply unclip when it is no longer needed.

Installation

The Britax Max Fix II is simple to install with the well know ISOfix technology. Please make sure to check that your car model is compatible (most modern cars should be). The instructions are described on the base as well as the manual so that you don't have to keep checking you are on the right track as you fix it in place.

Firstly, to connect the ISOfix to the car, pull the strap on the front to extend the clips.

Once attached, you can then extend the leg to the bottom of the car for extra support.

You can do this by squeezing the two red buttons on the side of the grey stump (they will automatically click into a lock when it is in the right position).
